Today's law enforcement challenges are tougher than ever. How can first responders ensure they are prepared for the events that test their abilities each day? Enforcement Expo Southeast — taking place October 28 to 30 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta — offers several tools for continuing training and education.
Co-located with EMS EXPO and Firehouse Central, Enforcement Expo enables first responders the chance to train and learn together during the multiple crossover conference sessions offered. The event also recognizes the importance of continuing education that focuses specifically on law enforcement topics.
"We realize that each professional needs to be well trained in their specific field," Show Manager Bob Luikens explains. "To accommodate that, we offer law enforcement, EMS and fire classes along with crossover classes that combine all three areas."
Several sessions are planned to train and educate law enforcement professionals to react with confidence, accuracy and skill on the job. Topics cover a wide range of issues important to those working in the Southeast region.
Advance preparation for a terrorist attack is covered in the class "Counterterrorism for Law Enforcement." Attendees will gain the tools to understand the mindset of terrorist operators, how they form and operate, and how to properly gather and process various forms of street intelligence.
At some point in their career, law enforcement officers are likely to be called to respond to incidents in which one or more people are in crisis. In "Crisis Negotiations for the Law Enforcement Professional," attendees learn how to respond effectively, resulting in lives saved.
In "Methamphetamine Awareness for Patrol Officers," attendees will gain a basic understanding of what methamphetamine is, its effects on the user, the extent of the problem, the primary methods of manufacture, and the ability to identify items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine. They'll also learn about the chemical, toxicological and physical hazards associated with methamphetamine labs, and the roles of first responders and citizens when encountering clandestine drug labs.
The session "Police Intelligence Operations (PIO) for the 21st Century Threat" will give attendees the tools to support, enhance, and contribute to a community or business' protection program. Attendees will also be taught situational awareness and strategic visualization in sessions that portray relevant and legitimate threat information that may affect the operational and tactical environment in the prevention of a viable threat.
In "You've Been Shot — Now What? Treatment and Tactics for the Wounded Officer," attendees focus on self first aid/buddy first aid in a lethal force encounter. Tactics for winning the fight and gunshot wound treatment are also discussed.
Along with these and more than 25 other Enforcement Expo Southeast sessions, attendees can take advantage of offerings from EMS EXPO and Firehouse Central's full conference programs and a group of 15 comprehensive public safety sessions.
