• Jones was shot in the neck and jaw while taking an armed suspect into custody but survived against medical expectations, becoming a symbol of resilience known locally as “Tim Strong.”

• The department honored the second-generation officer throughout the years, noting his courage and long fight following the shooting.

Jones, a second-generation police officer, joined the department in June 2015, and he was shot less than a year into service. Following the shooting, he was honored by the village board over the years, and a section of Lakewood Boulevard was named in his honor in 2018. Jones' locker also remained at the department.

“Tim will always be an inspiration, and a reminder of what courage, resilience, and heart truly look like,” stated the department. “We remain incredibly proud of the fight he gave.”
