Texas Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Crash while Transporting Inmate

Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Charles Rivette died and another deputy was seriously injured in a crash in Centerville while transporting an inmate, who also was seriously injured.

A Texas deputy transporting an inmate died Wednesday in a crash that left another deputy injured.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident that killed Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Charles Rivette, the sheriff's office stated in a news release. He and Deputy James Francis were providing transportation for an unidentified inmate in Centreville when the crash happened. 

Francis and the inmate were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash.

"Sheriff (Rand) Henderson expresses his profound sorrow and extends condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Rivette," the agency stated. "The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office family is lifting up Deputy Rivette, Deputy Francis and the injured inmate in our prayers.
