A candlelight vigil was held Thursday for a Missouri police officer who died after exchanging gunfire with a suspect, who also was killed.

Independence Police Officer Blaize Madrid-Evans, 22, was wounded when he and another officer responded to a call Wednesday. The other officer shot and killed the gunman, and Madrid-Evans was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
The city held a candlelight vigil outside police headquarters.
