What to Know

  • Brevard County Sheriff's Office Homicide Agent Kevin Morris was killed in a head-on crash with a wrong-way driver while responding to a deputy-involved shooting late Saturday.
  • Investigators said the driver made a U-turn and traveled southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 before colliding with Morris' cruiser in Titusville.
  • Both vehicles burst into flames after the crash, and Morris and the driver were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. as Morris was responding to a deputy-involved shooting in Mims, the Orlando Sentinel reports. He was traveling northbound along Interstate 95 in Titusville as a 2021 Nissan Sentra was traveling southbound the wrong way after making a U-Turn.

This is not a case where somebody went up the ramp the wrong way and got confused," Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Channing Taylor said during a Sunday press conference.

The Sentra driver collided with the front of Morris' cruiser, and both vehicles became engulfed in flames following the crash. Morris and the driver were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
