An Indiana town marshal was killed when he was struck by a wanted suspect in a stolen van Wednesday.

Lynn Town Marshal Brad Fisher, a 27-year law enforcement veteran, had been helping Randolph County sheriff's deputies apprehend the fleeing suspect, WTHR-TV reports. A vigil for Fisher is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Randolph Southern Junior-Senior High School baseball diamond.

The incident happened at around 8:30 a.m. when deputies observed a woman with multiple warrants driving a stolen vehicle, Indiana State Police told WTHR. At first, the suspect stopped for deputies but then quickly fled.

During the pursuit, Fisher was deploying a tire deflation device when the suspect struck him before crashing into a dump truck after losing control of her vehicle. Fisher was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

The suspect also was taken to the hospital before being taken to jail.
