A Pennsylvania police chief died suddenly this week while on duty.

Heidelberg Borough Police Chief Dennis Dixon was found dead in his cruiser just before 9 p.m. Monday, according to a borough news release. No details were released surrounding the circumstances in which Dixon was found, and the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner has not released a cause of death.

"Our thoughts are with Chief Dixon's family and loved ones during this difficult time," the borough stated.

Dixon had been with the department since 2008. He was named chief in 2018.

The Allegheny County Police Department is investigating the chief's death.
