An NYPD officer serving in the U.S. Army National Guard as part of Operation Epic Fury died Saturday from a medical episode, according to the department.

Officer Sorffly Davius had been deployed to Kuwait to support U.S. military operations against Iran when the medical issue occured, the NYPD stated in a social media post. No details were released concerning the nature of the medical episode.

"May we never forget Officer Davius’ sacrifice and may his memory be a blessing," the department stated.

Davius had joined the NYPD in 2014 and was assigned to the 79th Precinct. He was in Kuwait, serving in the Army National Guard's 42nd Infantry Division and had earned the rank of major.
