An NYPD cop was killed on his way to work Wednesday morning in a fiery motorcycle crash on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, police sources said.
The officer was heading in the direction of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on the BQE when he became wedged between two box trucks near the Atlantic Ave. exit in Cobble Hill about 8:50 a.m., police sources said. He was thrown onto the asphalt by the impact.
His motorcycle kept on going, hit a wall and burst into flames, video posted to social media shows.
Medics rushed the victim to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, but he could not be saved. The officer’s name was not immediately released.
The victim, who was wearing a helmet, was on his way to work when the crash occurred, according to police sources.
Cops shut down the westbound lanes of the expressway as they investigated the crash.
