La. Police Officer Fatally Shot by 'Friendly Fire' while Serving Warrant

Rayne Police Lt. Allen "Noochie" Credeur was fatally shot by "friendly fire" while helping execute a search warrant related to an earlier stabbing.
Credeur, who joined the department in 2003, was remembered as a role model who deeply connected with the community, particularly young people.
The Louisiana State Police is currently investigating the shooting.
A Louisiana police officer was shot and killed by "friendly fire" while executing a search warrant Monday.
Rayne Police Lt. Allen "Noochie" Credeur was helping to execute a search warrant at around 1:30 p.m. in connection with an earlier stabbing, the department stated in a social media update. Officers were trying to locate the suspect when Credeur was struck by "friendly fire."
Credeur was pronounced dead at the scene.
"This devastating accident has shaken the entire department and community," the department stated.
Credeur stared as a reserve officer with the Rayne department in December 2003, and he became a full-time officer in 2005. In 2014, he became the D.A.R.E. officer.
"Lt. Credeur was more than an officer; he was a brother, a friend, and a role model," the department stated. "He served with pride, humility, and an unmatched sense of duty. He had a special way of connecting with people—especially young people—and was truly invested in making Rayne a safer, stronger place to live."
The Louisiana State Police is investigating the shooting.
