An Illinois corrections officer was killed in a crash while responding to a tactical call last week.

Illinois Department of Corrections Sgt. Andrew "Drew" Faught, 27, was on his way to a tactical call at Lawrence Correctional Center in Sumner at around 7:30 a.m. April 8 when the crash happened, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. He was traveling in heavy fog and attempting to pass a car when he collided with another vehicle.

“Drew loved sports, especially his time playing football with the Morris Chiefs, and the Morris Redskins football and wrestling teams,” the McLean County Sheriff’s Office stated in a social media post, according to WJBC-AM. “He also enjoyed weightlifting. But the most important thing to Drew was family. He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle.”

Faught, 27, had been with the Illinois Department of Corrections for six years. He had been a member of the agency's Tactical Response Team.
