Retired N.Y. State Police Officer Dies of 9/11-Related Illness

New York State Police Technical Sgt. Christopher P. Rock, who joined the agency in 1987, had been assigned to help with search and rescue efforts in New York City following the Sept. 11 attacks.

A retired New York State Police officer died of a 9/11-related illness last month, Acting Superintendent Dominick L. Chiumento announced.

New York State Police Technical Sgt Christopher P. Rock passed away Dec. 3 of an illness stemming from the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, according to the statement. Rock had been assigned to ground zero in New York City to help with search and rescue efforts.

Rock, 59, joined the New York State Police in March 1987, He served with the agency for 26 years and was last assigned to Field Command, Division Traffic.

Rock retired i n September 2013, and he is survived by his wife.
