An Indiana sheriff's deputy died at the state law enforcement academy Tuesday, weeks before graduation.

Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy Tim Guyer was found unresponsive in his dorm by recruits at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield when he didn't report for breakfast, the Daily Journal reports. Life-saving measures were performed, but Guyer was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are heartbroken beyond words,” said Maj. Andy Fisher, Johnson County Sheriff's Office road division commander.

Guyer's death is being investigated by the Indiana State Police. An accident nor foul play are suspected as the cause death, however.

“Tim was a man of so many things. Family, faith, community, work, and following his dreams,” Town Council Vice President Jessica Jones wrote in a social media post.

Guyer, 49, became a recruit with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office in December 2022. He was on track to graduate from the academy in two weeks and join the sheriff’s office as a merit deputy.

“This is a sad day, but Tim was also doing exactly what he wanted to do, and that was trying to fulfill the dream and being a deputy for us,” said Fisher.
