Minn. Deputy who Survived Fiery 2021 Crash Found Dead

Aug. 3, 2022
The cause of death of Ramsey County Sheriff's Deputy Dallas Edeburn is under investigation after he was found dead in his vehicle after leaving the Arden Hills patrol station.

A 30-year-old Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy who survived a fiery crash last year was found dead in his vehicle after leaving the Arden Hills patrol station on Sunday, the sheriff’s office announced Wednesday.

A preliminary autopsy of Dallas Edeburn showed no signs of trauma or injury, and the cause of his death remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Edeburn left the station on Sunday and the sheriff’s office found out Monday he hadn’t returned home as expected. In a search of the area between the station and his home, his vehicle was found Monday on the side of a road.

“Our hearts go out to Dallas’ wife, family, and friends,” Sheriff Bob Fletcher said in a statement. “He was larger than life, both in his physical presence and his service to Ramsey County.”

In March 2021, Edeburn was seriously injured when his squad car was struck by a stolen vehicle driven by a man fleeing from police. His squad rolled and ignited into flames, and another deputy pulled him to safety.

“Dallas worked valiantly to rehab from his injuries and return to full-duty status,” the sheriff’s office said in Wednesday’s statement. “His commitment to his family, his partners, and the citizens of Ramsey County will never be forgotten.”

Edeburn began as a Ramsey County correctional officer in 2015 and became a deputy in 2017. He most recently was a member of the Violent Crime Enforcement Team.
