An Arkansas sheriff's deputy was killed in a single-vehicle crash while he was on duty last week.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Independence County Sheriff's Deputy Frank Ramirez was traveling in a rural part of the county just before 1 a.m. when the accident happened. Ramirez was taking a left curve in wet and rainy conditions when he lost control of his cruiser, which left the road, struck a culvert on the driver's side and then went flying through the air.

The cruiser crashed into the ground and rolled over. Ramirez, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Ramirez was married with two young children," the sheriff's department stated in a social media post. "This is a time of tremendous grief for our agency, his family, and our communities.

"Pray for Ramirez’s family blood and blue, our community, and our department!"

Ramirez had been with the department since June.
