PALMETTO, Florida -- A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office corrections deputy was killed in a crash in Palmetto Thursday morning.

Shaun Feverston, 28, was on his way home from work when the crash occurred, said sheriff’s office spokesman Dave Bristow.

“Everybody’s kind of walking around in a daze,” Bristow said. “It’s the worst possible thing.”

Feverston, a four-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was part of a family of sheriff’s office employees. His brother, Bristow said, is a patrol deputy and his father works as the head of the fingerprint unit.

”MSO lost one of our own today as Corrections Deputy Shaun Feverston was killed in traffic crash. Thoughts and prayers to Shaun's family,” a tweet from the sheriff’s office, accompanied by a photo of Feverston, read.

The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Bud Rhoden Road and Moccasin Wallow Road, according to Florida Highway Patrol’s live traffic map.

A roadblock was reported in the intersection of Bud Rhoden Road at Moccasin Wallow Road. Motorists should avoid the area.
