Wisconsin Police Detective, Three Others Killed in Shooting Spree
A veteran Wisconsin police officer and two bank employees and a lawyer were killed in a shooting spree Wednesday.
Everest Metropolitan Police Detective Jason Weiland and Marathon Savings Bank employees Dianne M. Look and Karen L. Barclay and attorney Sara H. Quirt Sann were all pronounced dead, according to WISN-TV.
The first shooting was reported just after noon at Marathon Savings Bank in Rothschild arrived to find Look and Barclay dead and the suspect gone.
A second call came 10 minutes later from a law firm in nearby Schofield where Sann was found dead and the third shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in Weston.
A witness who lives in the complex told reporters that she saw a cruiser approach drive up around 1:15 p.m. and heard a gunshot a few second later before seeing the Weiland fall before he was taken away by a armored SWAT vehicle.
A standoff ensued and lasted for several hours before ending in a volley of gunfire around 5 p.m. with the suspect taken into custody.
"I would like to send all my thoughts and ask everybody listening, 'Thoughts and prayers to all the victims and their families.' Everest Metro Chief Wally Sparks said during a press conference. "Please keep them in your prayers and be with our officers."
Weiland, a 15-year veteran of the force was a field training officer and member of a task force for internet crimes against children. He previously served as a narcotics detective for the Marathon County Sheriff's Department and as a police officer and corrections officer for Marathon City and Marathon County.
A memorial fund for the Weiland family has been established through Intercity State Bank, 2900 Schofield Ave., Weston, WI 54476. Donations for the family can be directed to Intercity State Bank under the name of "Weiland Memorial Fund."
