Ga. Officer Driving to Training Killed in Crash

Wadley Police Officer Lawrence Thomas Forrest was on his way to Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro to attend mandated classes when the two-vehicle wreck occurred.

A Wadley, Georgia police officer died in a crash while driving to police certification training Monday morning.

Officer Lawrence Thomas Forrest was on his way to Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro to attend mandated classes when the two-vehicle wreck occurred around 6:40 a.m. on Highway 121, according to The Statesboro Herald.

The 37-year-old officer was pronounced dead at the scene while the other driver -- identified as 40-year-old Alpeshkumaar Patel -- was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with serious injuries.

Forrest worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office before being hired by the Wadley Police Department. He is survived by his finance and two sons.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
