Louisiana Trooper Suffers Fatal Heart Attack

A Louisiana State Police trooper suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty Tuesday afternoon.

Sgt. Tracy Morgan was working at the Capital One Tower in Lake Charles when around1 p.m., he collapsed as he walked from the parking garage to the main building, according to KPLC-TV.

State Police Spokesman Sgt. James Anderson said that troopers and medical personnel working in the building administered CPR until an ambulance arrived. Despite their efforts, Morgan was pronounced dead at CHRISTUS-St. Patrick Hospital.

The 51-year-old joined the Louisiana State Police in 1994 and had previously served in the U.S. Marines and was an officer with the Lake Charles Police Department.

"He epitomized what it meant to be a trooper," Louisiana State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson said. "He will be missed by us all.”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
