A Branch County, Michigan Sheriff's deputy has died after he was critically injured during a Memorial Day parade.
Deputy Michael Winter was on parade detail Monday when he was thrown from his horse, according to a sheriff's office news release.
Responders on the scene rendered aid to the deputy before he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon. Winter's final act of service will be donating his organs to those in need.
"The Branch County Sheriff's Office wishes to express their deepest sympathy to the family of Deputy Winters," Sheriff C. John Pollack said in a statement. "He will be greatly missed by all of us his co-workers and fellow law enforcement family. We shall always remember him for his service to his country, to the Branch County Sheriff's Office and to his family"
Funeral services are pending.
