Thousands of mourners on Friday honored a Prince George's County, Maryland police officer who was killed in a gun battle outside a police station earlier this month.

Officer Jacai Colson was accidentally shot and killed by a colleague as a gunman ambushed the District III station in Landover on March 13.

The First Baptist Church of Glenarden was packed with friends, family and co-workers as they said their final goodbyes, according to WJLA-TV.

"My baby is at peace," the officer's mother, Sheila Colson, said during the funeral service.

One friend called him a "vessel from God" and that he showed them how to live their lives.

Others said that Colson he loved his job, was active in the community and would have done anything to help anyone.
