Georgia Ports Officer Succumbs to Injuries

A Georgia Ports Authority police officer has succumbed to injuries he sustained after being struck by a tractor-trailer while directing traffic in March.

Cpl. William Solomon was hit at the Garden City Terminal in Savannah on March 2 by the truck driven by Robert Lee Turner, who was charged with DUI in connection with the incident, according to The Coastal Courier.

Solomon was transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah and was recently transferred to Emory Hospital in Atlanta, where he was pronounced dead Thursday morning.

Turner is currently serving a 10-month jail sentence after his probation was revoked because of the incident.

Solomon was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Georgia Ports Authority Police Department for eight months. He previously served with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.

He is survived by his wife and children.

Funeral arrangements are pedning.
