All three suspects sought in the fatally shooting of an Anderson County, S.C. K-9 were in custody Thursday afternoon.
David Fitzgerald Morris was arrested during a traffic stop on Shockley Ferry Road and Martavious Craig turned himself in to Seneca police on Thursday, according to WYFF-TV.
Sergio Martin was arrested Wednesday evening. A conviction of shooting and killing a police dog carries a sentence of one to five years in prison.
K-9 Hyco was sent into the woods after the three men after they fled the stolen car on Highway 24 around 1:15 p.m.
Sheriff John Skipper said Hyco was wounded and taken to a Magnolia Veterinary Clinic where he was pronounced dead.
"It's one of us. It's one of our work mates," Skipper said. "We are out here with those dogs every day."
Hyco's handler, Cpl. Brandon Surratt, believes the 7-year-old German Shepherd saved his life.
"They know during the training that we use these dogs in dangerous situations," Skipper said. "Obviously this handler feels like this dog probably saved his life today."
Skipper was in service for six years and one of the most experienced K-9s on the force. Hyco had more than 100 apprehensions during his career and Skipper said it will cost the department about $14,000 to replace the K-9.
