Missouri Deputy Dies After Emergency Call

A Harrison County, Missouri Sheriff's deputy died suddenly over the weekend following an emergency call.

Deputy Brett Hawkins collapsed while attending a family birthday gathering at the Pattonsburg senior center on Sunday, according to The Bethany Republican Clipper.

The 34-year-old deputy was transported to the Harrison County Community Hospital where he died. Just hours before he collapsed, Hawkins responded to a call involving a frantic subject and a search of a home and the surrounding area, a report on the Officer Down Memorial Page states.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.

Sheriff Josh Eckerson said that he will miss his longtime friend, who served as the D.A.R.E. officer for the county schools.

"Deputy Hawkins loved kids and the kids loved him back. I could always count on Deputy Hawkins when I needed him to work," he said in a statement. "Deputy Hawkins and I have had some good times and he is irreplaceable."

Hawkins started working for the Harrison County Sheriff's Office in August 2012. He previously served with the Bethany Police Department and the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.

Hawkins is survived by his wife, Brooklyn; daughter, Arlie Rae; sons, Keegan Goble, Karsen Allen and Kenten Allen.

Funeral Arrangements

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany, Missouri where friends may call after noon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Bethany. Burial will follow in Miriam Cemetery in Bethany.
