Thousands took part in the "Police Lives Matter" march in northwest Houston Saturday morning to honor a slain Harris County Sheriff's deputy.
The march included about 10,000 people driving jeeps, riding bicycles and marching foot in remembrance of Deputy Darren Goforth, who was gunned down at a gas station in Cypress last month, according to KHOU-TV.
The march began on North Beltway 8 at Gessner Road near the Sam Houston Race Park at 9:30 a.m. and went on for 4.5 miles.
Marchers said the rally was peaceful, purposeful and proud in support of law enforcement across the country.
"We just need to come together," marcher Nikki Plunkett told the news station. "I feel the nation is divided right now. We just need to all come together."
Matching T-shirts were purchased by marchers to wear during the event, raising thousands of dollars for Goforth's widow and children.
The message on the back read: "United we stand. Go forth with no hate."
