Pennsylvania Officer Dies of Head Injuries

Scranton Police Officer John Wilding suffered fatal injuries while chasing robbery suspects on foot.

A Scranton, Pa. police officer critically injured Saturday morning while chasing robbery suspects on foot has died.

Officer John Wilding died at 1:28 a.m. Sunday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center, according to WNEP-TV.

Officers responded to the 300 block of North Main Avenue after receiving reports of a stolen SUV. Wilding suffered a critical head injury during the pursuit.

Officials said that during the pursuit, the officer leapt over an ivy-covered wall and fell down about 15 feet.

Police arrested 17-year-olds Nasiir Jones, Isiah Edwards, and Tanner Curtis. The three juveniles were charged with robbery, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person and will be charged as adults.

Wilding is survived by his wife and two children.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
