A George County, Miss. deputy died in a crash early Tuesday morning while responding to a call.

Deputy John Robert Street, 24, was en route to a previous crash around 2 a.m. when he was involved in a single-vehicle wreck on Highway 57, according to The Jackson Clarion-Ledger.

While the incident is still under investigation, George County Sheriff's spokeswoman Shonna Pierce told the newspaper that it appears Street's vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

The four-year law enforcement veteran was employed part-time as a deputy and full-time as an officer with the Lucedale Police Department.

"For 24 years old, he was the most mature young man," Pierce said. "He was always willing to help a fellow officer. He could always be counted on. He was a good person, he was kind and compassionate. He was all the things law enforcement officers are made of."

Funeral arrangements are pending.
