Navajo Nation Police Officer Dies in Crash
A Navajo Nation police officer died in a car crash Sunday while transporting an arrested man to a jail in Dilkon, Ariz.
Officials said that Officer Ernest Montoya suffered a heart attack, which caused him to veer off the road, according to KPHO-TV.
Tribal spokesman Deswood Tome told the news station that the 54-year-old officer was driving the suspect back to the jail facility on the reservation when the crash happened.
Montoya had been with the Navajo Department of Public Safety since October 1993.
