A Clarksville, Tenn. police detective died on Oct. 24, days after he suffered a fatal heart attack while working a special assignment conducting traffic control for a large event.
Detective Kagan Dindar experienced the medical emergency on Oct. 18 in front of 200 South Third Street around 8:50 a.m. while directing traffic in a congested intersection, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
An event participant used his radio to alert authorities and medical personnel arrived approximately one minute later. He was transported to a local hospital where suffered a second, massive heart attack. He remained in a coma for several days before he was declared dead.
The nearly six-year veteran of the force was described by police officials as a devoted husband, father, military veteran and detective.
"If you don't love him, you don't know him," Clarksville Police Department spokeswoman Natalie Hall wrote in a statement. "Not only did he make us all laugh, but he was also such a sincere friend who truly cared about people ... It was an honor to serve with such a great friend and my brother in blue."
