Detroit Officer Shot in Head Succumbs to Injuries

A Detroit police officer wounded in a shootout with a murder suspect this spring succumbed to his injuries Saturday night.

Officer Patrick Hill had been hospitalized since being shot in the head during the April 2 confrontation with Matthew Joseph, according to The Detroit Free Press.

Police returned fire, killing the 23-year-old homicide and armed robbery suspect.

The incident began when police stopped Joseph’s car before the man opened his door and opened fire on the officers.

Sgt. Jeffrey Pacholski was shot twice in the leg during the exchange of gunfire and was treated at a local hospital. Both he and Hill were members of a federal, state and local anti-crime task force.

Hill is survived by his wife and four children.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
