A veteran Chicago narcotics officer died on May 20, one day after he was hospitalized after complaining of chest pains while on duty.

Officer Paul Nauden's death was reported by The Chicago Tribune the day it occurred, but Officer.com is just getting word of it now.

He was a 21-year veteran of the force.

The 46-year-old officer was on patrol when he began feeling ill and was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center at approximately 6:15 a.m. the following morning.

After his death, dozens of officers gathered near the hospital in a show of unity and escorted the ambulance carrying his body to the medical examiner's office, according to the report.
