NY State Trooper Fatally Shot

July 2, 2018
NY State Police Trooper Nicholas Clark was shot and killed after responding to a suicidal person call in the early hours of Monday, July 2, 2018.

Trooper Nick Clark, 29, responded to a report of a barricaded suicidal person. At approximately 0330 on the morning of Monday, July 2, 2018, Trooper Clark was dispatched to 10041 Welch Road in the Town of Erwin (Steuben County) for report of a suicidal person. Trooper Clark and other law enforcement personnel responded, set up a perimeter and attempted to contact the individual to begin either negotiations or assistance. Attempts to contact the individual were fruitless.

During these attempts, Trooper Clark was shot and killed. When other officers were able to move inside the barricaded area, they found the gunman deceased from apparently self-inflicted gunshot wounds. The subject was identified as a 43-year-old male whose profession was that of school administrator. His name has not been released as of this writing.

Trooper Clark served the New York State Police since graduating from the academy in September, 2015. Trooper Clark served in numerous barracks but had been assigned closer to home at Troop E/SP Bath since August of last year. Trooper Clark is remembered as brave, compassionate, fearless and fair.

We at Endeavor Business Media offer our condolences and prayers to the New York State Police and especially Trooper Clark’s family as they grieve and remember this fallen hero.
