Late last week, the bureau reassigned two senior counterterrorism supervisors over their handling of an investigation into allegedly harassing phone calls made to Katie Miller, wife of senior White House aide Stephen Miller, Bloomberg Law wrote.

In response to the announcement, Patel thanked Bailey for his contributions of "instituting critical reforms which resulted in our historic success ..."

The bureau did not immediately respond to an email request for an interview with Bailey, who could not be reached for additional comment.

In 2022, Bailey was appointed Missouri's attorney general by former Gov. Mike Parson. He then was elected to the post in November 2024, beating Democrat Elad Gross.

During his short stint as attorney general, Bailey put transgender medical care, abortion and other culture war issues at the top of his priority list.

He pursued numerous legal challenges against President Joe Biden on several policies, including student loan forgiveness, immigration and environmental rules. Bailey threatened legal action against private gyms over bathroom gender policies and called on schools to ban drag shows. He also unsuccessfully attempted to use the state’s emergency rule-making process to ban transgender medical care for children and adults.

Missouri's two sitting U.S. senators, Republicans Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt, were the previous attorneys general for Missouri.

Calling Bailey a "dedicated public servant," Schmitt said in a statement that he was "grateful for Andrew's work to expand the FBI’s role in St. Louis and Missouri to keep thugs and violent criminals off our streets."

After Bailey left for Washington, Gov. Mike Kehoe appointed Catharine Hanaway attorney general.
