Seven police officers who helped capture the accused gunman in a mass shooting at an Illinois Fourth of July parade were honored in a special ceremony Tuesday.
The North Chicago police officers were presented certificates and flags that flew over the U.S. Capitol by U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider, WGN-TV reports. Robert Crimo III, who is accused of fatally shooting seven people and wounding dozens more at a Highland Park July 4 parade, was apprehended by police when an officer spotted him driving in North Chicago following the shooting.
During his arraignment Wednesday, Crimo, 21, pleaded not guilty to 117 felony charges, the Daily Herald reports. He faces 21 counts of first-degree murder and 48 counts of attempted murder, among other charges.

“The bravery that you exhibited that day is a testament to the character that you exhibit every day in your job and a model for all of us who benefit from your service,” Schneider said.
Only two officers attended the ceremony. The five other officers also will receive flags.
