Detroit Police Turn Holding Cells into Community Donation Center

The Detroit Police Department has turned holding cells into a community resource.

Donation centers have been set up in the 6th Precinct's former cells, WDIV-TV reports. The cells received fresh coats of paint, and they are now dubbed the community closet, housing clothes, diapers, baby food, shoes and other items for residents. 

“This used to be a dark, dirty place back here for people that weren’t doing what they were supposed to do in the community,” Officer Nicole Wallace said. “So we’ve decided to turn it into something that will uplift and help the community.”
