Dallas' police chief is crediting a new department initiative with a drop in violent crime.

The Dallas Police Department's Violent Crime Reduction Plan went into effect 90 days, KDFW-TV reports. Since then, the city has seen a decrease in murders and robberies.

"I hate using the term ‘All hands on deck.’ Seems so cliché, but it’s the focus of every member of this police department," Chief Eddie Garcia said during a presentation to Dallas' Public Safety Committee.

"I've been working on this plan for a very long time, and now we’re going into phase two," he added.

Garcia said violent crime was down almost 46 percent in the targeted grids compared to the 18-week pre-intervention period
