A Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured Thursday when he was hit by a car while working a call in Seminole, authorities said.

Deputy Jason Anderson, 37, was standing on the edge of 104th Street near 106th Terrace about 9:45 p.m. while working an unrelated call for service when the driver of a Ford Fusion heading north on 104th Street struck him, throwing him to the ground, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Anderson was taken to a hospital to be treated for two skull fractures, a fractured wrist and cuts on his face. He was in stable condition Friday and deputies said the injuries are not life-threatening.

The Ford driver, 37-year-old Shaira Wester, stopped after the crash and told investigators that an oncoming driver appeared to have high-beam headlights on, hindering her view. Investigators do not suspect she was speeding or impaired and no criminal charges are expected, according to the sheriff’s office.

Anderson has been employed by the sheriff’s office since 2015.
