Mass. Trooper Dragged 15 Feet by Driver Fleeing Traffic Stop

A New Hampshire man was arrested early Thursday morning after dragging a Massachusetts State Police trooper during a traffic stop in Boston, according to Massachusetts and New Hampshire State Police.

Raymond resident Binit Bikram Shah, 27, is facing charges including operating under the influence, operation of motor vehicle without a license and drug possession out of Hampton District Court in connection with the incident, New Hampshire State Police said in a press release.

Massachusetts State Police also intend to pursue charges against Bikram Shah, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a police officer, State Police said in an email.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m., a trooper stopped Bikram Shah at the intersection of Central Square and Meridian Street in East Boston, State Police said. The trooper asked for his identifying information and soon discovered he was driving with a suspended license.

When the trooper tried to get Bikram Shah to leave the car so it could be towed, he shifted gears and sped off, dragging the trooper approximately 15 feet, State Police said. Afterwards, the trooper was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and nearby law enforcement agencies were asked to be on the lookout for Bikram Shah’s car.

Shortly after 3 a.m., a New Hampshire State Police trooper noticed Bikram Shah’s car — a black 2021 BMW 5 Series — driving north on I-95 in Seabrook, New Hampshire State Police said. A group of troopers then pulled the car over together, determined that Bikram Shah was not sober and arrested him.
