Two Texas sheriff's deputies were seriously injured Tuesday when a tractor-trailer crashed into their cruiser, and bystanders grabbed on to one of the deputies who was dangling from an overpass.

The incident, which was partially captured by a witness' video footage, happened along U.S. Highway 87 as two Lubbock County sheriff's deputies were helping a stranded motorist near an overpass, the agency stated in a social media post. That's when a tractor-trailer struck their empty cruiser, which pinned both deputies against the guardrail.

In the video footage, one of the deputies is seen hanging from the overpass as bystanders from a nearby gas station keep him from falling. Other bystanders are also seen using a ladder to help secure the deputy and help get him back on to the overpass.

The deputies were rushed to a hospital and are expected to recover. A civilian at the scene also suffered minor injuries.

"The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office would like to thank everyone who worked to support the deputies until additional first responders arrived on scene," the agency stated.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating the incident. The sheriff’s office used the incident to highlight the risks associated with roadside stops and the importance of alert drivers obeying move over laws.

"Additionally, we would like to remind everyone on the roadway to slow down and move over any time they see a vehicle parked on the side of the road," the agency stated.
