A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper was "severely injured" after a fall from an interstate overpass earlier this week, according to the agency.

Trooper Brad Ritger was responding to a vehice chase along Interstate 94 in Dunn County early Monday, the state patrol stated in a social media post. Another officer had tried pull over a vehicle for speeding and reckless driving and was pursuing the suspect, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Ritger had he deployed a tire deflation device on a bridge deck and was trying to move to cover. That's when he fell from the bridge onto the road below, according to the state patrol.

CPR and other life-saving measures were performed on Ritger at the scene. He was rushed to the hospital, where he is being treated.

The fleeing vehicle eventually stopped in the median shoulder, and the driver was arrested.

Ritger has been with the Wisconsin State Patrol for five years. He had been assigned to the Northwest Region in Dunn County.
