Pennsylvania State Police cruiser — Authorities allege a Lehigh County driver targeted a Pennsylvania State Police trooper with a milkshake and deodorant container while the trooper investigated a damaged pickup truck.

A 30-year-old Lehigh County man is accused of speeding past a traffic stop involving a relative twice on Interstate 78 and hurling objects at the state trooper investigating.

Brad Thomas March, of the 200 block of North Fifth Street in Emmaus, is charged with two counts felony aggravated assault; two counts misdemeanor simple assault; two counts misdemeanor propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle; two counts misdemeanor reckless endangerment, as well as related offenses.

March was arraigned Wednesday morning before District Judge Kyle B. Miller, who set bail at $75,000. In lieu of bail, he was taken to the Lehigh County jail.

Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville spotted two vehicles just after 2 a.m. Monday leaving the parking lot at Hamilton Boulevard and Brookside Road in Lower Macungie Township.

They included a damaged pickup truck and a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. Both continued onto Interstate 78 east.

Police later learned March was driving the Hyundai and his brother was driving the pickup truck. They were leaving a Wawa convenience store, where they bought various items, according to the affidavit of probable cause against March.

A trooper stopped the pickup truck at mile marker 57 due to its “inoperable headlamp” and “heavy front-end damage,” court records stated.

March then continued to travel past the stop, hurling a plastic cup filled with a strawberry milkshake at the trooper before speeding away, state police said.

State police did not pursue the Hyundai. As the trooper sat in his patrol vehicle conducting the investigation on the pickup truck, he noticed March drive by in the Hyundai a second time, according to court records.

That time March flung a deodorant container at a patrol vehicle before speeding away again on I-78 East, police said.

A police dashboard camera recorded both incidents, court records state.

March is due back in court for a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Sept. 1 before Miller. A judge will then determine if there’s sufficient evidence to send the case to the Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas.
