A Massachusetts State Police trooper was taken to a hospital Thursday after being dragged several feet by a driver who police had pursued onto the Bourne Bridge, officials said.

At around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, a trooper on patrol attempted to stop a vehicle on Route 25, before the Bourne Bridge. The vehicle did not stop and continued to the busy bridge, where more State Police troopers joined the pursuit and tried to get the driver out of the vehicle, a State Police spokesperson said.

“When the driver’s door was open, the car began to move, dragging one of the troopers several feet,” said the spokesperson, Sarah Burgess, in an email.

The vehicle continued to flee and exited the bridge into Falmouth.

Police shared a description of the suspect vehicle with nearby law enforcement agencies and Falmouth and State Police began to look for sightings of the vehicle, Burgess said. State Police airwing and K-9 teams were also alerted to help.

The suspect vehicle was found outside a home in East Falmouth, Burgess said. Members of the MSP STOP Team and Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section went to the home, where the suspect was “initially non-compliant.”

The suspect was then taken into custody, Burgess said. She did not identify the suspect or say what charges they might face.

The trooper who was dragged was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries, she said.
