ATLANTA -- Law enforcement agencies and municipal partners are evaluating flashing warning signs as part of broader traffic safety strategies aimed at improving driver awareness in high-risk roadway environments.
Radarsign outlined the role of LED-enhanced flashing warning signs as traffic control devices designed to increase the visibility of standard roadway signage. The technology is typically deployed at intersections, pedestrian crossings, school zones and curves — locations where officers often encounter compliance issues and elevated crash risk.
The company said the signs are intended to reinforce driver behavior by improving recognition and response times, particularly in areas where traditional signage may be overlooked. For law enforcement, this approach may support proactive safety efforts by reducing violations and the need for direct enforcement in targeted locations.
Radarsign stated that the signs are designed to align with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), 11th Edition, and federal guidance. Compliance with national standards is a key consideration for agencies when implementing traffic control measures and ensuring consistency across jurisdictions.
The flashing warning signs use high-intensity LED lighting to increase visibility in both daytime and nighttime conditions. According to the company, the systems are built for continuous outdoor use and can be configured for multiple operating modes, including continuous flashing, scheduled operation or activation-based systems depending on roadway conditions.
Officials noted the signs are designed for deployment across a range of roadway applications, allowing agencies to scale installations across corridors or networks as part of larger safety initiatives. Use cases include reinforcing stop compliance at intersections, improving driver awareness at pedestrian crossings and enhancing guidance through curves.
Radarsign also emphasized the role of flashing warning signs within a layered traffic safety approach. The company said the technology can be paired with other systems, such as radar speed signs, rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) crosswalk systems and flashing beacons, to increase driver awareness and influence behavior before and at critical decision points.
For procurement, the company stated the signs are developed with public agencies in mind, offering configurations intended to balance performance, compliance and ease of acquisition. Availability through cooperative purchasing programs may streamline the procurement process for law enforcement agencies and municipalities.
