Colorado police received an odd invitation after arresting a suspect fleeing a traffic stop offered to buy officers dinner following a brief foot pursuit last week.
The strange interaction happened when a Wheat Ridge police officer tried to pull over a vehicle displaying improper license plates, the department stated in a news release. The driver delayed stopping and, once stopped, fled on foot.
Additional officers responded to the area, and they took the suspect into custody. Once police had apprehended the suspect, the man had an unusual request as officers put him in handcuffs.
“OK guys, you got me,” the suspect is heard saying in body camera footage. “Can I buy you dinner?”
No injuries were reported in the incident. The suspect was issued a summons for obstruction and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on an outstanding warrant.
