An accused drunken driver summoned police to a crash with an accidental call to 911, Auburn police reported.
Officers were dispatched to a crash on Live Oak Street following a 911 call at 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, the Auburn Police Department said in a news release.
“The call was unintentionally made by the driver, who did not intend to contact law enforcement,” police said.
A vehicle had become stuck in a home’s front yard while trying to make a U-turn in heavy fog, police said.
Officers determined the driver was at nearly twice the legal limit of a .08% blood alcohol content and arrested them on suspicion of drunken driving, police said.
“Driving under the influence puts lives at risk — including your own and others on the road,” police said. “Your safety — and the safety of our community — matters.”
Auburn is about a 35-mile drive northeast from Sacramento.
