N.C. Sheriff's Deputy Injured in Crash while Chasing Speeder

A Wake County sheriff's deputy was trying to pull over a speeding driver on Interstate 40 when the deputy's cruiser crashed off the road.

A Wake County Sheriff’s deputy is recovering after a crash early Sunday morning during a chase on Interstate 40.

The deputy attempted to stop an eastbound driver speeding on the interstate just after 3 a.m., but the driver did not stop, according to a news release.

The deputy crashed off the road near the N.C. 540 interchange, sending the deputy to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, it said. The suspect kept going.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, Wake County officials said.
