HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee -- A Hendersonville police officer who was stuck and killed by a vehicle on a highway while chasing a suspect on foot on a highway Monday.
Officer Spencer Daniel Bristol was pursuing a vehicle that n Hendersonville that went into Goodlettsville while the vehicle hit another car on Interstate 65 and became disabled, according to WSMV-TV.
The driver, 19-year-old Kevin Jordan, was taken into custody immediately and has been charged with evading arrest, reckless endangerment and received a misdemeanor cite for window tint.
The passenger in the vehicle ran off on foot and the 31-year-old gave chase as he ran across the interstate. When they crossed the median dividing wall, Bristol was struck by a vehicle and later died. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the woman who was driving the vehicle was extremely distraught.
That suspect was able to escape officers due to the crash and remains at large.
Spencer was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Hendersonville Police Department for four years. He is survived by his wife and 3-year-old daughter.
Funeral arrangements for Bristol are pending.
