North Carolina Police Officer Struck and Killed While Investigating Crash

Lumberton Police Officer Jason Quick was attempting to walk across the northbound lanes of I-95, from the inside lane to the right side shoulder, and was struck by a passing vehicle Saturday.

LUMBERTON, North Carolina — A Lumberton police officer was struck by a vehicle and died from his injuries early Saturday morning, a news release from the Lumberton Police Department said.

Officer Jason Quick, 31, was dispatched to a crash on the northbound lane of I-95 near exit 22 at about 6:10 a.m. Officer Quick was attempting to walk across the northbound lanes, from the inside lane to the right side shoulder, and was struck by a passing motor vehicle, said Sgt. Michael Baker, a spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, which is assisting in th einvestigation o fthe crash.

While investigating the crash, Quick was hit by a vehicle at 6:53 a.m., the Lumberton Police department's news release states.

Another Lumberton police officer and members of the Lumberton Fire Department immediately began rendering aid to Quick.

Officer Quick was transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the 2017 Hyundai that struck officer Quick has been identified as Kadejera Inman, 24, of Fairmont.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol and its reconstruction unit, and the investigator for the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office were contacted to investigate the crash scene.

Quick had been with the Lumberton Police Department since 2017 and was assigned to patrol, said Capt. Terry Parker.
