A Memphis police officer was critically injured after he was hit by a vehicle during a traffic stop Monday night.
Officer Jeffrey Creighton had pulled over a car around 11 p.m.near Frayser Boulevard and Rangeline Road when a pickup truck passing by struck him, according to The Commercial Appeal.
The four-year veteran of the force was transported to the Regional One Health Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Cleodis Davis stayed on the scene and was charged with DUI, vehicular assault, aggravated assault and driving with a suspended license.
Creighton was the second officer hit by a vehicle within about a 12-hour span.
Officer Timmy Mitchell sustained non-life-threatening injuries around 11 a.m. Monday when his patrol car was hit as he responded to a domestic violence call in the 4800 block of Berrydale in the Parkway Village area.
He was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
"I ask for the citizens of Memphis to join me and the men and women of the Memphis Police Department as we pray for a speedy recovery for both injured officers," Police Director Michael Rallings said.
Both incidents are currently under investigation.
