An Edgecombe County, North Carolina Sheriff's deputy died in a crash during a vehicle pursuit Sunday evening.
Deputy David Manning was pursuing a vehicle on Highway 111 about three miles south of Tarboro when he lost control of his patrol car in a curve, according to WITN-TV.
The 24-year-old deputy was thrown from his vehicle after it collided head on with an oncoming pickup truck. The two people inside the pickup truck sustained minor injuries. Manning was pronounced dead at the scene.
He graduated from basic law enforcement training in November from Edgecombe Community College.
"I am truly saddened by the loss of one of our deputies as a result of this collision," Edgecombe County Sheriff Cleveland Atkinson said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to both families involved. Please keep us all in prayer."
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.
